The Distinction between an electric cooperative and any other electric utility is the management structure of the cooperatives. EC are not only owned by their member consumers but the members also have a role in the management of the cooperative. Each member is granted a voice in the operation of the cooperative by the election of the Board of Directors.
On April 15, 2008, the newly elected AKELCO Board Directors took their oath during the Annual General Membership Assembly. They were chosen to lead and serve the coop in directing AKELCO and representing the General membership.
