NEA salutes AKELCO, 70 other EC’s in |

The Aklan Electric Cooperative Inc., (AKELCO) along with seventy ( 70 ) other electric cooperatives in the country will be given recognition by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) for selfless displayed of Bayanihan spirit of the TASK FORCE KAPATID BALIK-ILAW volunteers in restoring the electric power in the provinces of Albay and Sorsogon.
According to NEA Administrator Editha Bueno , this is to extend the well-deserved honor and appreciation for the participation of all the electric cooperatives’ linemen and engineers in the rehabilitation of lines devastated by typhoons Caloy, Milenyo & Reming in the Bicol region.
Last December 2006, AKELCO formed TASK FORCE KAPATID BALIK-ILAW in response to NEA’s call to help Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO) in their “Balik-Ilaw” project which aim is to speed-up power restoration in the whole franchise area of ALECO. The team composed of twelve (12) Linemen and led by Engr. Wayne Bocala and foremen Melvin Torres and Teody Iradon immediately headed to Albay.
The team was assigned to repair the primary backbone lines of Tabaco substation and rehabilitate the distribution lines in the town of Malilipot,Tabaco, Albay.
In Malilipot, where in clearing operations, digging and constructing of distribution lines were among their field work , it tested their skills, speed and intensity in repairing the damaged electric power lines throughout the said areas to ensure power restoration. With that, they came back with a job well done.
“To be a part the NEA-EC TASK FORCE KAPATID BALIK-ILAW program for twelve days is a fulfilling job . It made me realized that to save other people from trouble and distress without reservation is a true meaning of unity ” explains Engineer Bocala.
TASK FORCE KAPATID is the brainchild of Fr. Francisco Silva, Presidential Adviser on Rural electrification and former NEA Administrator. It had become the combined efforts of NEA, National Power Corporation ( NPC ), National Transmission Corporation ( TRANSCO ) and all electric cooperatives which main principle is to provide logistic and technical assistance to any EC’s that needs such concerns particularly in upgrading and rehabilitation after being badly hit by a super typhoon or some kind of calamities affecting their power situation. It
The recognition ceremony will be held on January 31 at the HESA, NEA office, Quezon City. The awarding of the plaques of Commendation will be given by the NEA Board. This will be participated by the cooperatives contingents led by General Managers, Board Presidents and Foremen/Leadmen of TASK FORCE KAPATID BALIK-ILAW.
