AKELCO
URGES MC TO OBSERVE “TOU” SCHEME
Lezo, Aklan- The Aklan Electric Cooperative,
Inc. (AKELCO) urges its member-consumers to help reduce the
coop’s generation cost by utilizing the Time of Use (TOU) Scheme.
According
to AGM for Engineering, Engineer Ricardo I. Ileto, the National Power
Corporation’s generation component is charging the coop a TOU rates of
P5.6379 per kilowatt-hour (KwH) from 6 pm until 9 pm, the “peak hours”, while the lowest rate was recorded from 1 am
until 7 am which only cost P1.7782 per KwH.
The TOU rate scheme applies when
electricity consumption is less demanded, power cost is at its lowest rate but
at the hours when energy is overly consumed, power cost becomes higher.
Consumers
can choose the period when to use their appliances when power is at low cost
and avoid usage when power cost is high, thereby paying less for the same
amount of Kwh consumption, which is the rationale behind the TOU scheme.
“I
appeal to all member-consumers to limit their electric usage between 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and instead
use electricity at early mornings and early afternoons which are the off-peak
periods of the day, with that, we can altogether help reduce the high cost of power
generation” Ileto stressed.
Accordingly, the generation charge
is automatically passed on to its end-users. However, if this can be adopted,
it would appear that the TOU scheme could provide consumers of a cheaper
electricity rates.
To save electricity, consumer must refrain from using their refrigerators,
washing machine, aircon and
do the ironing only on off-peak hours where less TOU rates are being
charged.
Presently,
TOU meter is not yet available for interested consumers to purchase for this
type of technology; however, you can save some of your peso for power cost if
you’ll use your electricity wisely.
