AKELCO HOLDS TREE PLANTING
Lezo, Aklan - More than
eighty employees of
Aklan Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AKELCO) participated in the nationwide
launching of Green Light @ 40 by conducting
a Tree Planting Activity last June 19, Friday, at the hillside of Brgy.
Bugtong Bato, Ibajay boundary of Jawili Tangalan area.
Green Light @ 40 is part of the National
Electrification Administration (NEA) 40th anniversary celebration.
The highlight of which is the International Convention on Rural Electrification
(I-CORE). Simultaneous Tree Planting of 119 electric cooperatives nationwide is
one of the build-up activities of the said event.
The
Tree Planting is in coordination with the DENR-Aklan for the 500 Mt. Agoho
seedlings they have chosen for the said purpose. It started at 9 a.m. with a
short program at the Aklan Reforestation Project Regional
Training Center.
DENR Project Manager, Artemio Bacarra and CENRO
Joel Diaz graced the occasion. Both of them lauded AKELCO for promoting
environmental awareness. It is believed that planting trees in the tropics may
offset the carbon dioxide that we produce.
Likewise, in commemoration of NEA's 40 years of service
thru rural electrification, the nation will observe the National
Electrification Awareness Month in August.
Meanwhile, AKELCO prepares
for the conduct of Brigada Electric Check "Safety and Reliability", part of the
Brigada Eskwela Program. This aims to promote awareness on climate change,
electrical safety and energy conservation to students and teachers in the
province. This will take place in the whole month of July.
